You could join the company that creates the modelling and simulation software. Technically, that would make you a professional with a profession in the modelling and simulation software.
I feel that modelling and simulation is a very wide area. The companies only provide the software, the users make it to their needs. Its like Microsoft Excel, one may use it regularly in their job to say enter data and create spreadsheets. They are technically a professional data entry clerk and may have attended and received certification in using the software.
Therefore, I think one should'nt think too much about the certification but rather provide proof one's capability in the use of the software. Certification is normally given by the maker of the software themselves for those who pay to attend their courses.
For example, one common program among engineers is Matlab. The following is a website that many people go to share their codes, files etc. It doesnt make them a professional, (some actually have gone through courses) but it demonstrates your expertise in the use of the software.
