hello everyone

can anyone explain me the following what this mean?

hold-up time

surge time

slug time

i was facing some problems with this whether which i have to use in 3-phase separator design.

most of the literature i saw that they were using hold up time only.

but actually i want to know when this hold-up/surge/slug time is used?

Is hold-up time is sufficient to design a separator or surge&slug are also have to use?
