Good morning friends, I am working on a project in which to store pentane which has an RVP of 18 psia traditionally stored in pressurized spheres but we are evaluating storage alternative economic issues. The vapor pressure at storage temperature is 17 psia.
Is possible store it in some floating roof tank or something like that.

Dear Roberto:

In our NGL plant we have vertical cylinder fix roof for storage of pentane.

If you have any  standard for pentane storage, i would be so appreciate send me.

I would remined you in tank construction you must be very careful ,bacause in hydrotest of this tank you may have not any leakage but when you store pentane in tank you probably face with leakage.

i hope hear from you soon

Mr Rahimzadeh  excellent, you could send me a picture or a specification tank please? It would be very useful. Actually in our company we have no standard to talk about the storage of pentane the truth is that the tank must be kept in a liquid state minimizes evaporative losses and preserving safety mainly in the area of storage.

Robert Montoya,

For storage of such high vapor pressure fluid (up to around 19 psia) you cannot use floating roof tanks and you need to use Vertical Cylinders with Dome Ends (or Spherical Form).

Dear Robert,

May i know which criteria considered for the economic evalution ?

As expert suggested to go for Fixed Roof storage tank than there is no selection between fixed roof & floating roof.

As per general guidlines when vapor pressure is more than 15 psia then Fixed roof storage tank is seleted with all necessary blanketing system to prevent vapor loss.

Regards,

Jatin

Mr. Rahimzadeh, I think it would be a good idea, if you could share the picture and documents here only with the forum, so that multiple people can have a look at it and learn, since many people have participated in this discussion and they have a right to know.
