Hi

 

Can anyone tell what is the minimum distance between two storage tanks according to NFPA if present within dyke. In my system I have two tanks of 15 m dia how can I calculate dyke area?

Adilfaheem,

 

I have idea about OISD not NFPA but so far I can say that it is stringent.

 

See below criteria for interdistance.

 

Sl.        Item                                     Floating Roof              Fixed Roof                   Class C

No.                                                        Tanks                   Tanks (Class               Petroleum

                                                                                      A & B Petroleum

 

 

1.         All tanks with diameters            (D + D) / 4                  (D + d) / 4                  (D + d) / 6

            upto 50 metres

 

2.         All tanks with diameters            (D + d) / 4                  (D + d) / 3                  (D + d) / 4

            exceeding 50 metres

           

Where, D= Larger tank diameter & d= Larger tank diameter

 

Dyke volume shall be around 110 % of the total volume of tank.

 

Please have a look in OISD-118. i hope you will find more details.
