Can anybody explain the differences between API & Non API Fans?

Please help me out. I am desperately need this.

API equipment is manufactured according to specified API requirements. Those requirements may not be needed in your situation. Non-API equipment is manufactured to different standards which may still satisfy your needs while costing less.
