I would like to ask weather natural circulation will be possible in a flame and explosive proff environment.

I have to keep my pump running cooler by circulating water to it without using a pump.

One idea i have got of heating the water and hence expanding and making it less dense and making water to circulate from the heat source to the heat sink.

Please suggest me other ways of doing so in a cost effective way.

Regards,

PATRIK

It sounds like this is a thermal oil pump.  Some manufacturers employ a fan on the pump impeller drive shaft to provide air cooling to the mechanical seal and bearings (Dean and many others).  Other vendors extend the shaft, say for a vertical centrifugal pump -- an 'air cooled' top (eg Grundfos). External, natural convection air cooled fin coolers for mechanical seals are offered by Flowserv and others.  If you already have a closed-loop water cooling loop, consider using it.  You may want to examine the various API seal plans.

Thanks for your kind replies but actually i m circulating water through the water jacket of the pump so i want a process that can cause natural circulation of water through it. Using a thermosyphon can b a way which is usually used in the nuclear reactors to circulate water.

But i doubt the efficiency of using it. Please suggest any other idea or whether some improvements can be brought in using thermosyphon for cooling the pump.

Hydraulics is everything for a thermosiphon. And that in turn depends on pipe size, geometry, density of fluid, Temperatures & pressure drops.

So providing us with a sketch of your setup might be a start.

PS. This article analyses something close to your use case:

Also, isn't it possible to site the water circulation pump remotely to escape your restrictive environments?
