Hello,

I am trying to find the right method to use for the following problem, the answers are given below in bold but I am struggling to get to them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Kieran

Vegetable oil containing 80 % (w/w) of fat is produced by pressing seeds with the following composition: 28 % (w/w) of fat and 10 % (w/w) of water. The vegetable matter left after pressing still contains 10 % (w/w) of fat which is extracted using tetrachloromethane.

After the removal of the solvent, the oil (of the required composition) is mixed with the vegetable oil from the press and the remaining mass from extraction is dried to the final content of 10 % (w/w) water and 0.2 % (w/w) fat.

How much vegetable oil is produced from 100 kg of the raw material in this process and what percentage of the oil is produced by extraction.

(35.2 kg, 26.13 %)
