Hi,

My question is how I can size an extraction decanter. I simulate the separation of the two phases with Aspen Plus (Decanter), but it does not size the decanter. I have the density of both phases, viscosity, flow rate, etc.

What are the equations to size this type of decanters (2 liquids with no solid)?

THANKS!

Hi,

Check for mixer settler using your favorite search engine .

https://www.911metal...mixer-settlers/

Basically, you need residence time to separate the phases, ratio aqueous/solvent (volume) or the choice of the continuous phase could affect the decantation time, same for temperature, some equipment can be added to minimize the emulsion band thus the residence time.

Good luck
