Hi,

I am currently doing a distillation column design and am stuck at insulation thickness. I cannot seem to find a typical value used in the industries. Also, what are the typical materials used to insulate?

Thank you.

Hi

Normally, you should have insulation specification and you can follow that spec.
The insulation for hot/cold insulation is come from the economic reason. the comparision of insulation cost and the saving energy i.e. hot insulation can save some steam, is considered. therefore, it strongly depend on you process temperature.
The insulation for personel protection is come from the surfce temperature control. the accessable surface temperature will be limited by installing some insulations.

Actually, the insulation spec should be generated for individual project due to the differences of ambient condition e.g. temperature or wind velocity.

Probably Rockwool + aluminum cladding .

Calculation to be performed as mentioned by AlertO ( Energy saving & People protection ) , a few centimeters .
