I know that different types of reboilers are used in the chemical and petrochemical industry. are there any references where I can find the type of reboiler associated with a specific separation column.  For example, are kettle reboilers used for i-c4/n-c4 fractionator? for the aromatic separation process, what type of reboilers( kettle or thermosiphon) are associated with the various columns - benzene column, toluene column, ethylbenzene column.

Thanks.

That's not a bad idea for a "community database"!

Various members could contribute by sharing their knowledge on operating column/reboiler systems... not only the reboiler type but also some key aspects / operating conditions. For instance:

- type of tower: main fractionator, absorber, stripper...

- type of internals: trays, random packing, structured packing....

- number of theoretica/real stages, HEPT...

- overhead conditions, pressure, temperature, type of  condenser, reflux ratio

- bottom conditions...

- feed position and conditions

- main specifications: purity, recovery...

- presence of side extractions, side strippers, pumparounds....

- tower dimensions and feed capacities

- materials of construction

- others

Is someone interested?

What is the position of Administrators / Moderators / Veterans / Experts...?

Cheers

bluehat,

Reboiler selection is based on many factors and not just based on the type of process or separation column. Take a look at the excel file attached in the link provided below for reboiler selection:
