Hi,

Need suggestions or guidelines regarding plot plan preparation for process plants. Am new to do this job and assigned to prepare a process plant's plot plan in a common format so that for any plant we can customize it. Is there any software used for this purpose? I can configure the layout using recommended distances from one equipment to another and one system to other following some documents and guidelines. What is the usual practice or better procedure? My intention is to do it something like automatic instead of manual plotting in autoCAD or somewhere.

Any comments are mostly welcome!

Hye

For general reference, i suggest you to buy process plant layout and piping design book by Ed Bausbacher and Roger Hunt. Some of the content is as below:

-the basics of plant layout design

-plant layout specification

-plot plans

-pipe racks

The book discussed about the plot plan in the process unit, plot plan development, types of plot plans, equipment location, roads, access ways, and paving, equipment spacing, and sample plot plan arrangement. for me, the explaination is quite detail. for particular client like shell, exxon, they have thier own guidline.

In my present and previous company it is mainly the Piping Engineers that execute the plant layout and spacing, although Process Engineers and several others needs to work with them for several parts of the design. The way I see it familiarity in the modeling  software is not sufficient as this requires enough experience in doing layout due to several considerations in carrying this job. Considerations includes safety, operation, economics, maintenance, etc.

Thank you Farid. The book is quite pleasant, helpful and specific with lot of works.

Oscarsender, you are right and obviously those considerations reflects in plot plan and layout design.
