Dear friends
There is a tower with kettle type reboiler and because of some reasons I want to change it to thermosiphon. Can anyone help me in this case? Is it even possible? What changes should make on tower?
Sincerely
Ali

Ali,
In general, it might be possible, but many factors would come into the study for evaluating the possibility. Fouling tendency, fluid viscosity, temperature approach, required area and available plot space are some of the mentioned factors should be specified before starting the relevant study...The tower itself may subject to modification especially on relevant nozzles to/from reboiler mainly due to subsequent hydraulic change...

Dear Mr. Fallah
Because of heavy fouling in tube bundle of kettle reboiler and also my previous topic about this problem in operating, I want to find a way to change reboiler, but I did not find anything in references.
Tower is Debutaniser in H2SO4 Alkylation unit, and polymers which produce during reaction carried with alkylate and accumulate in the reboiler and after while decrements duty.
This is the reason for revamp.
Sincerely

Dear Ali,
If there is heavy fouling it might be better using "Pump-Through Reboiler" instead thermosiphon or kettle type...

If you are drawing from a chimney tray you should be able to design a once-through vertical exchanger. But this will likely require a new nozzle on the column for return. If you provide a sketch showing elevations and column bottom details, we might offer some help. Without these, all you will get is guesses. You should also provide exchanger information, too, including flow, composition, temperature, pressure, and duty.
