How is the UFD made? I believe it is made once the package vendor information is available (steam, nitrogen etc.)

sfmech,

UFD can be prepared before having package vendor info, with the package(s) as a box and the info (T,P,Flow) of distributed streams to various users. Obviously, the box(s) would be presentted in detail in relevant P&ID(s) with vendor data implementation as soon as the package documentations and info being received from selected vendor(s)...

sfmech,

I agree with Fallah, and I would add that there are many utility systems which do not include a vendor package. Here are some examples:

  • Heating medium
  • Cooling medium
  • Flare
  • Open drains
  • Closed drains
  • Diesel
  • Fuel gas (though the treatment equipment can be packaged)
  • Sea water supply (offshore)

UFDs for these systems should be produced by the design contractor's process group at an early stage in the project. They should include, temperatures, pressures, mass flowrates, and means of control.

Paul
