Dear Sir/Madam,
I am a chemical engineering student undergoing a design project. I am designing a diesel hydrotreating plant that converts a blend of straight run diesel (SRD) and light cycle oil (LCO) into Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) that has a sulfur content below 10 ppm to meet local regulations.
These are all the information that was given for the project. I have also attached a pdf file of my design project's briefing.
SRD Properties
Specific gravity @ 15 degrees celsius: 0.830
Sulfur content: 875 ppm
Nitrogen content: 102 ppm
Cetane number: 56.2
Monoaromatics: 11.9 wt%
Polyaromatics: 6.1 wt%
ASTM D86 Curve, Vol %, (oC)
IBP: 170
10: 216
30: 253
50: 277
70: 305

FBP: 384
LCO Properties
Specific gravity @ 15 degrees celsius: 0.938
Sulfur content: 370 ppm
Nitrogen content: 870 ppm
Cetane number: 29.3
Monoaromatics: 38 wt%
Polyaromatics: 26 wt%
ASTM D86 Curve, Vol %, (oC)
IBP: 187
10: 224
30: 242
50: 260
70: 293

FBP: 365
I am now on a stage where I want to use Aspen Plus or Hysys (both are okay) to try and simulate my plant. However, I do not know how to input the given properties of my feedstock (SRD and LCO) into my simulator. I tried to use petroleum assay to characterize my feedstock, but then I do not know how to model my hydrotreating reactor. I have all the kinetics data I need.
My main objective is to be able to design a plant that is able to produce ULSD (diesel with sulfur below 10 ppm), thus, I do not need complex simulation procedures, I just need one simple simulation that is able to predict the variables I have given above. I am looking for a general guidance as to how to start modeling my plant properly.
I hope I explained my problem in enough detail. If not, I will be very happy to give more details. Thank you for allocating some of your time to help, it would be a tremendous help for me. Once again, thanks.
