Hello Everyone,

We have a problem with steam reboiler pass partition plate which was bent. We saw that  when we pulled it out for cleaning as it was fouled.

As per RCA the partition plate was damaged because of high dP however it can't be proven due to no pressure indicators available up and downstream of the steam reboiler.

Can it be explained by theory or identified by other parameters if the design is such that steam reboiler tube side has a HP steam flow (40barg) in and condensate stream out connected to the condensate pot which has a balance line connected to the inlet HP steam line.

Thanks.

Maybe the plate is too thick. Along with improper startup.

Hello Bobby,

Thank you. You mean the plate is too thin?

What are the parameters which could indicate the high dP if as mentioned no PTs available?

At any point of time, have you observed any indirect indication, that implies to some effect on dp in exchanger loop? If not high dp may not be correct guess.

What is MOC of channel & pass partition plate? Do you suspect any uneven thermal expansion due to temperature difference in adjacent passes?

In absence of thermal datasheet of exchanger, we can just anticipate various possibilities.
