Hi,

I need to know the basis of the costing in Aspen Hysys (v9.0). Are there the references in the Hysys to check the basis of the individual costings? How to modify/change/create the costing in Hysys to customize the Capital cost, utility cost etc?

Regards,

Is this about the 'activation' ribbon? Or something else?
Utility costs can be checked in the Process Utility Manager

Namaste,

Aspen Icarus Reference Guide

This is the most comprehensive that I got from Aspentech

As you know there is two ways to do costing in Aspen HYSYS

--Less Rigorous: In plant capital cost estimation: Activating Economics in the ribbon.

‚Äč-- Rigorous: Open Capital Cost estimator. Import simulation data from aspen hysys file.

Between those two.in my experience difference in results sometime varies sometime 20-30%

Dear All,

Thank you very much.

pavanayi, actually I am looking for the background equations, specific references used by the aspen for their cost estimation. The 'Economics' ribbon is showing the amount of the capital cost and the utility cost. Then Aspen Process Economic Analyzer (APEA) showing the costs in bit details. I wanted to know how they are generating these data. In the 'Process Utility Manager', I was looking for the references for the 'cost index' of the individual utility, though the utility price can be changed / created there.

Chinmoy, Aspen Icarus seems a databook used for their cost estimation. They have put the system costs (wage rates, engineering expenses etc), code account etc. I am trying to make cost library in Aspen Capital Cost Estimator. I think one of my purposes can be served by doing this. Your comments in costing comparison are appreciated.

In the 'Plant Design and Economics' book by Peters, there are the equations/ formula for the cost index, cost estimation, depreciation determination methods, some other costing factors, capital cost etc. Can I get these kind of relationships in case of Aspen? If I change the plant location to a place which isn't mentioned in the aspen library for costing, then how the costing can be calculated. How is the cost index for their individual costing? These things I need to clarify. I am still looking for them.

In one of their webinar they discussed that their code calculate the cost according to some Rigorous algorithm.

Rigorous meaning ( they said)

Like for one equipment after sizing they will calculate the thickness of each component then:::: from weight the material cost::: then from welding cost (According to labor cost in the region(please see below)) ::: then painting;; other auxiliary component of the equipment cost is added.

They are not going to share those code because they are propitiatory.

In the 'Plant Design and Economics' book by Peters, there are the equations/ formula for the cost index, cost estimation, depreciation determination method

In my Advanced Process Design Course  i built excel according to those literature and compared with two aspentech procedure.

In aspen capital cost estimator they calculate the cost according to specified location. I have added the screenshot about how to specify and example how they calculate

Best Regards

Chinmoy, thank you for your kind effort. I think making own spreadsheet(s) is more convenience for the specific cases what usually the companies do.  Yes, some of the locations are mentioned there but even in the US may be some of the associated costs are different at different states. Creating own library (guided in Aspen Capital Cost Estimator) in aspen can be a good solution also. let's try for that. Thanking you again for the references, and sharing your valuable experience.

ACCE I belive uses a volumetric model for estimation. The equations etc in the books are index based (if I remember correctly). There is a fundamental difference between the two.

Moreover, in ACCE, you have to understand the basis correctly. As an example, if you are costing a heat exchanger, please have in mind that the exchanger is placed in the middle of a 15m by 15m square. Costing will include the exchanger itself, the piping from its nozzles to the boundary of the 15x15 plot, foundation, civil overheads, instrumentation (the valves associated with the exchanger), painting etc etc.

Regarding locatoins, please also check Run-->Decision Analyser for other options (Plant location, engineering location etc)

For any detailed help, I believe it is better for you to check with Aspentech's customer service.
