I am working on a project for my Senior Design class and I am having to price all the units in our natural gas treatment plant. We have a few floating head shell and tube heat exchangers and I have been using the following correlation to estimate prices (as of 2010):
C = a + b(S^n)

a, b, n = constants

S = capacity of the equipment

We now have a plate and fin heat exchanger in our plant but our Design book doesn't have constants that would go with that type of heat exchanger.

I saw a post here from a while back asking about a similar situation but the responses said "if you're a professional engineer it is better to call and ask for a quote" but since I am a student and this is all a theoretical situation I don't have enough details about the exchanger to ask a supplier to quote it.

I hope someone here has worked previously with pricing this kind of equipment or has knowledge on the subject that could help me. Thanks in advance!

Did you try Google? And you should search for brazed aluminum heat exchanger, not plate and fin.

Good luck,

Bobby

I've tried searching through google but I cant find any charts or empirical equations that would help me estimate the cost of that type of heat exchanger. i was hoping someone would be able to point me in the direction of an empirical equation that related heat transfer area or heat transfer coefficient to the cost of the brazed aluminum heat exchanger.

Look at this. It's too much for me, but it might help.
