Hello,

 

I have a flow meter measuring the flow of water filling a tank. The tank will be filled to a certain acceptable volume by controlling the time of that the valve is open and I don't want it to exceed that volume by X amount. I am not sure how to calculate my desired accuracy of the flow meter. Is it the amount of excess flowrate, that will lead to this X amount, over the total flow rate?

The control loop you describe consists of a valve and a timer. The loop does not include the flow meter so its accuracy would not matter.

Hi ,

I don't know if this is going to help you ( attachment) . Somewhere you need to capture the value of the flow and perform the calculation ( integration ) . Is it part of the instrument or with the support of a DCS /PLC?  Normally you set a quantity and the system will close the valve as soon as you reach the target .
