Greetings,

I am working in a chemical plant which has a cooling tower with water recirculation rate of 10,000 m3/hr.

It is a wooden cooling tower with an age of approximately 15 years.

It is observed that drift velocity and evaporation loss is higher than usual.

When I calculated the Evaporation loss and drift loss using below relationship,

Evaporation Loss Calculation: E = 0.00085 x R x 1.8 x C

Windage or Drift Loss Calculation

For Induced Draft Cooling Tower D = 0.1 to 0.3 * C /100

Actual losses were higher than the above-calculated values.. ( Rest of the losses like leakages are considered)

Since raw water reduction is the utmost priority,

Can anybody suggest what can be done or at least recommend good cooling tower analysis companies?

Sincerely waiting for a positive response.

Regards

Charan

Since we don't know your location, we can't make any recommendation for specialists. Windage and drift are the equivalent of blowdown. So, if these are less than blowdown requirements you are OK. Unless the exhaust creates a problem.

Hi ,

Hope this helps , make sure no blow down uncontrolled before thinking evaporation or drift are increasing , a full balance is required .

Good luck
