Dear Community Members,

 

I am checking existing PSVs against new flow and found that existing valve relief flow is 100 times bigger than new flow (ie 5 m3/hr- existing relief rate, 0.05 new required relief rate).

Taking into account that existing valve is proportional type, how it will react, will it chatter or not response at all?...

 

Please advice, I am new in industry.

If you mean the existing PSV is modulating one, say modulating pilot operated, it can be supposed there would be no chattering due to very low required relif rate than the rated PSV capacity...

If its a proportional relief valve like a Swagelok PSV typically used on chemical injection tubing follow the curves supplied by vendor. These valves do not fully open at 10% overpressure so while the rated capacity is high the capacity at the allowable accumulation may be far less. See link . https://www.swagelok...n/MS-01-141.pdf.
