Hi

I'm undergoing a project in university where I have to design a scrubber that treats flue gas that is released from the combustion in the furnace. The main components that need to be treated in the flue gas are NO2 and SO2. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the scrubber type that I should be using as well as the first step on how to go about designing it. If anyone has any excel spreadsheets which are based on a scrubber design, please send them through as I have no idea how to start.

To add to the previous email , consider the resource attached. Consider also the search engine in this forum .

Note : You can download on internet software to help you in your design , among them  one from GEA :massdek Pro

Good luck,

Hi there,

Anyone that can help me get software for scrubber calculations, like the Massdek Pro software?

Help would be much appreciated.

"Massdek Pro" is not a widely recognized software.  Does it even exist?  I recommend you go for an AspenTech product, like Aspen Plus or Aspen HYSYS.

Hi,

In the past I was using Winsorp software from Raschig DE, It was a great tool.

You may want to contact them if you are working on an industrial project.

Other alternative would be Chemsep (open source software) unless you can get access to professional software (refer to Latexman's answer).

Good luck

Sir, I think Aspen software are commercial software with paid license. Can we do it in DWSIM ?

I've never used DWSIM, so I do not know.  Maybe someone who has used DWSIM will chime in.

yes you can use DWDIM to perform calculation .

You will find tutorial on Youtube channel or using your favorite search engine.

Thanks for responding everyone!

I tried designing an absorption column in DWSIM, but could not fully determine how useful it is. Has a steep learning curve.

Would DWSIM be useful to determine removal efficiencies and required column height (number of transfer units?) and then combine it with other hydraulic calculations?

Just beginning with these kind of calculations, so the help is much appreciated!

Hi,

To me before jumping to use software, you need to understand the basics. This is generally taught during the 2nd year of Chem Eng, under Mass transfer .
