Dear Sir,

I want to know about Reactor Mole Balance for a reactor in Refineries when using HYSYS. I got reply from ASPEN that moles never balanced in rigorous refinery reactor like Hydrocracker, CCR, isomerisation like that.

I want to is it true and if yes, how?  For example, I I feed in 1600 kmole/hr  of feed and 3200 kmole/hr of hydrogen in CCR reactor , then I should get 4800 kmole/hr of products . is It not right way of doing things?

Regards,

Chetan Chavan

No. You must develop reaction equations for the reactor.

U meant mole balance is not possible in CCR Reactor?

There are 115 reactions happening in CCR reactor in hysys. but still I feel overall mole balance should get closed

The mass balance over a unit shall always close, whether reaction(s) take place or not.

However due to reaction(s) the number of moles can increase, or decrease, or sometimes stay the same. It all depends on the reaction(s) that take place.

I am sorry to say that if you don't understand that you should not try to simulate any reactor but go back to your study books first.
