Hello everyone, 

 

I wanted some opinion and advice as to which of the following arrangement would be better w.r.t blowdown valve, isolation valve and restriction orifice arrangement?

Arrangement 2 is preferred and selected as blow-down system arrangement. Of course the isolation valve should be full bore and equipped with CSO facility...

Both arrangements will work...

Besides higher ball valve pressure rating, there is no isolation from the flare header for the RO maintenance and replacement in your Option 1.  Therefore, Option 2 is a better design.

Besides higher ball valve pressure rating, there is no isolation from the flare header for the RO maintenance and replacement in your Option 1.  Therefore, Option 2 is a better design.  

 

A Restriction Orifice has no moving part hence is almost a maintenance free instrument; nonetheless having the isolation valve after RO allows to do any periodic inspection, say for erosion, on it without shutting down the flare system...
