Dear all,

Currently Im facing a problem in simulation of a distillation column.

Aspen PLUS and Aspen HYSYS can model distillation trays with maximum four passes.

How can I perform simulation of a distillation column with more than 4 pass trays?

I would very much appreciate your kind answers.

What kind of simulation?

Bobby,

Im simulating a distillation column, with a very large diameter. Each tray has more than 4-pass. I mean number of downcommers on each tray is more than 4. I want to simulate this column and find out, whether this column can be used for separation of a feed with different composition and flow rate and predict flooding limits and product specifications of this column in case of the new feed. So I need to have a computer model of this column before actually changing the column' feed. I need to know whether simulation of such a column is possible?

Thanks.

a hysys/aspenplus simulation is not made for directly answering your questions.

you can do the simulation and pass the relevant results (ie traffics and properties) to the original vendor of your trays for the detailed verifications.

alternatively, you can input the same data in a good specialized vendor software to obtain rough predictions.

the tray calculation procedures embedded in hysys/aspenplus are simplified versions of those tools and don't provide acceptable results.

good luck!

Gegio1960,

Thank you for the suggestions.

Do you know of any of these specialized software, that I can use for prediction?

Hi,

Koch-glistch ; Sulzer or the one who designed your existing column if the case .

Good luck
