Hi guys, 

 

Hope someone with experiences in Nitrogen Rejection Units can share some of his ore her experiences in removing nitrogen upstream of LNG Plant. 

 

We have a very marginal field with around 500 BCF gas with very high nitrogen concentration of 21% which is very expensive and cannot be fed to the LNG Plant system downstream. We tried blending in with nitrogen-lean gas from other fields to dilute the nitrogen content before hitting the LNG Plant inlet but still the nitrogen content is still high around 3-5% at maximum pipeline capacity. 

 

I am therefore wondering if there are some noble technologies out there with which can help reduce the nitrogen content. Note that cryogenic distillation in upstream fields is very capital intensive and not viable for small marginal fields as such. 

 

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

There may be membrane solutions that can reject nitrogen from methane streams, but you will very likely lose some methane.
