Hello, 

 

I'm trying to design a unit to separate water from methyl oleate. The feed has 0.7 methyl oleate (mole fraction) and 0.3 water. hoping to achieve 95% separation. 

 

I have considered using hydrogels, industrial spray dryers. which option is better and how do I simulate that in UNISIM?

Before you attempt any simulation, it would be best to ask if Methyl Oleate is significantly soluble in water under ambient conditions. The answer is probably not very much. You can definitely separate the two relatively immiscible liquids in a simple settling tank, taking off the light Methly Oleate (SG = ~0.8-0.9) from the top and Water (SG = ~1.0) from the bottom of the settling tank. I would then propose to have a dehydration process to remove any moisture to the required levels. 

 

I don't seriously think you need UNISIM to simulate what I have just described above.
