Fatty Alcohol Plant Q&a
#1
Posted 30 September 2006 - 11:25 AM
I worked for Fatty Alcohol Plant almost 4 years.
The production process including esterification, hydrogenation, trans-esterification, factionation & distillation.
The feed stock I deal with is RBD Palm Kernel Oil, RBDPS, RBDPO for liquid phase hydrogenation whereas for vapor phase hydrogenation we use fatty acids.
I hope that the fatty alcohol process & production experts out there can join me together, for sharing information and thought, ideas of improvement & technology know-how & etc.
I am currently dealing with Davy Process Technology. Please kindly drop me your experiences on this plant if any. Thanks!

No Problem.
Very good plant to work for.
Improvements.
You have already written everything on each corner of the plant.
You can take operators to write some modules on Eastrification Section, Hydrogenation section, distillation section, feed material section.
You discuss plant problems as well as their problem, listen to them and try to make them as comfortable as possible.
You can do plant painting.
You can do succession planning.
You can take up regular published bulletin from Davy Process, distribute among yourselves, get ideas to work.
You can take up all.
Very Good.

Good find you here. Now I’m working in the design of Fatty Acids and Fatty Alcohol plats. The Fatty Alcohols is technology from Davy and Fatty Acids production is from Palm Kernel Oil (PKO) e Palm Stearin (PS) as your plant too. I will be the process engineer and the units star-up is expected for 2008’s beginning. So, I hope we might share experiences.
Best Regards,
WSN.

We were comparing the utility and energy consumption between the Lurgi and Davy Fatty Alcohol production processes.
Could you help us with details for the Davy process.

Very interested to know when feedstock is palm stearin, what is the end fatty alcohol like without cut, solid, liquid?
anyone try using PFAD as feedstock for the fatty alcohol production?
Pls PM me if you have such experience.
Many thanks!
