Dear All,

I didn't find right forum to post this question hence posting here.

1. Question 1: Requirement of safety shower and eye wash normally decided based on chemical handles at particular location. Can DCP (Dry chemical powder) be considered as a chemical to decide requirement of safety shower and eye wash? AS per MSDS of DCP its irritating to eyes.

2. As per IS 10592-1982, required water flow is 15-18 m3/h (250-300 lit/min) and minimum pressure is 2 kg/cm2 for remote location. Here pressure is given in absolute unit. So should we consider ~1 kg/cm2 (g) is the minimum required pressure. Please help to confirm as per your experience,

3. Is minimum flow shall be maintained? Any code reference?

1. The requirement for emergeny safety shower/eyewash depends upon the dangerous material present and the potential for contact with skin or eyes. According to my understanding DCP is not a dangerous material but it may be among potentially dangerous material. So I suggest you to look at GHS hazard statement for DCP such as H313/H320 and compare if your company practice allow them to have safety shower and eye wash.

2. I'm not aware any special minimum pressure requirements but we normally go with vendor requirements of minimum pressure required at the inlet.

3. Hope somebody among the experts here will share if any

Get ANSI Z358.1 Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment for design requirements.

You may consider the link above .

As a general rule , you should use safety shower or eyewash for 15 minutes , which is very long , to mitigate the risk of severe burns.

If you are using tempered water pay attention to legionella .

If you are dealing with cold weather make sure you have a way to prevent freezing .

hope this is helping you.
