I'm trying to find out when a simple water/hydrogen cooling tower packed with 2" pall rings will begin to flood. I've worked out the superficial gas velocity and the liquid loading velocity, i've also found the void fraction/packing factor etc. but i can't find any data/graphs with regards to flood points. Is there a way i can calculate this without needing graphs?

Kind regards

Hi,

Surely a countless number of engineers worldwide may have tried to calculate the loading or flooding point of packed beds.

A good summary reports out of more than 60 years' previous research data can be found here Laval University, Ca.:

and the calculation tool:  http://www.gch.ulava....ca/∼flarachi.  http://www2.gch.ulaval.ca/flarachi/pbrsimul/pbrsimul.html
