Lightning protection is one for our electrical engineering peers to address.
Of relevance as well, is the role of your local jurisdiction. I found this overview that's relevant to the U.S.:

Look at p.5:
Strike Termination
Strike termination devices serve the system function of accepting the direct lightning attachments. They represent the umbrella against penetration of lightning to non-conductive building materials to guard against fire or explosion. Any metallic body 3/16” thick or more projecting above a structure will accept a lightning strike without burning through.
However, you just can't simply prod a tall metallic object up in the air and expect it will provide useful service. How it is earthed / grounded is critical to its function.
Your local geography is also relevant. Some parts of the world have a propensity to lightning activity. Some standards refer to "thunder days" that quantify this geographical feature and it's used in the determination of the required design detail to address the risks due to lightning damage.
So, I would expect that the answer to your question would be along the lines of maybe, depending on the design detail and compliance with relevant lightning protection design standards and consideration of local conditions. However, it's a subject of study that I (personally) would defer to an Elec Eng colleague for guidance.
