The reactor at a client is working at 160 C, the top part of the reactor is not insulated.  Reactor is located in a building with roof and walls.

All the nozzles for chemicals addition are on top. So, there are some control valves, transmitters are on the top of the reactor.

The estimated ambient temperature above the reactor is 80 C during the reaction.  Based on the reactants properties, the ATEX temperture class is T4. ATEX zone 2.

Client complains about the estimated ambient temperature, because, according to the client, there is no instruments in the world able to the work in ambient temperature  80C。

It is sound very strange that there is not instrument in the world able to working in amb T=80C. But indeed, the instruments I found on the internet, states ambT <60C.

advices? thanks.

Why would anyone not insulate the surface if it is 160C? Would the temperature not drop drastically if it rains? Or would there be energy wastage due to heat loss from the top? What about personnel safety?

This problem of ambient temperature goes away if you insulate the top. Or if not, just around the area of the instrument.

Hi,

You may find pointers in the link above.

note : In the worst case you can use enclosure  equipped with blower or  blow some N2 !

my 2 cents
