One of our desuperheater has an steam trap located at distance of 1m downstream from it.
Is it a proper piping design

Hi,
On steam distribution piping, steam traps should always be installed at least every 30 to 50 meters (can vary based on the company/project philosophy).
Special care must also be taken to install steam traps in locations where there is a chance of liquid pocketing i.e. low points or valves that close for long duration or for that matter if there is vertical lift of the piping.
Check what is applicable in your case.

I think the OP is worried that a steam trap 1 m downstream of a desuperheater may be too close, such that the water droplets and superheated steam may not have come to equilibrium yet. It is a valid concern. Good catch, muthukmaar. I'd advise searching the web for design guidelines on desuperheaters. There are some big names in this business, like Spirax Sarco. My gut is telling me 1 m may be too close. It feels better with 5 m. 30-50 m would be great, as long as there are no take-offs in the 30-50 m span. You also have to be careful about what is downstream of the desuperheater. A turbine? You don't want any droplets in the steam to that!
