In our condensate distillation unit , kerosene cut and gas oil cut rates frequently change dramatically,  that exceeds capacity of kerosene stripper. We are thinking about installation of valving system to change strippers, and allocate gas oil stripper which is larger, in kerosene service and vice versa. Is this a good idea?

Best Regards

Impossible to say without detailed information of the present design.

Things to consider:

- mechanical design temperature and material selection of both strippers, including bottoms pumps, rundown exchangers, piping, et cetera,

- does the kerosene stripper have a reboiler or stripping steam,

- elevation difference between gasoil drawoff and kerosene stripper inlet,

- any safety implications, do HAZOP on new situation.

In any case the unit would need to go down every time you want to switch services of strippers.

If only the kerosene stripper is too small, but its bottom pump and rundowns exchangers are large enough, then you better replace the internals of the kerosene stripper by modern higher capacity trays or packing.

we checked the gas oil and kerosene  pumps and exchanges, they can work in both cases. High capacity trays can,nt handle this large quantity of kerosene with existing diameter of column. we did,nt examine installation of packing.

Check possibility of packing installation.
