Hello All,
i have a general query pertaining to marking the MECHANICAL MINIMUM distance between the fittings in the Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Screenshot of one such marking is enclosed herewith.
my query is that as a process engineer, how should i come to know that MECHANICAL MINIMUM is to be marked between what types of fittings?
are there any guidelines available for the same? if so, can anyone share or tell the link to download?
if not, can anyone by virtue of experience suggest few tips on the same?
with thanks & regards,
RB.

Your question: 'as a process engineer, how should i come to know that MECHANICAL MINIMUM is to be marked between what types of fittings?'
As a process engineer developing a P&ID, you should understand the process. If there is a process requirement for minimum distance between fittings, then note it on the P&ID. If there is no process requirement for minimum distance, then do not note it on the P&ID. If you do not understand the process, then make sure someone who does understand the process reviews the P&ID before issue.

As a Process Engineer you should only be worried about the minimum distance requirement from process point of view. Piping department will specify their requirement.
It is always good to have knowledge, you can ask your Piping department for the same.
