I assume that similar technology is ammonia instead of sodium.

Yes ,right , same technology is used for the production of sodium bicarbonate .
Process:
carbonization tower (absorption CO2 by aqua ammonia solution) with cooler at the bottom of the column , filtration (rotary filter or band filter or centrifuge) and dryer .
