Hello

I'd like to get your , as a professionals, opinion in topic related to HIPPS quantification vs total flare load.

As per practice HIPPS trip device to not be taken into account in total flare load summary during total failure scenario has to meet PFDav equivalent to PFD of pressure safety valve which typically is equivalent to SIL2 requirements (1/100 years). However failure of one HIPPS  device (the most demanding) shall be taken into account during total flare load summarizing.

Do you have any experience with SIL-3 rated HIPPS? Does failure of these device shall be considered at all during common wide-refinery failure scenario, or there is any basis/practice to fully exclude it during flare load analysis? What if this HIPPS provide the biggest load for the flare?

Any point of view is valuable.

Best regards
