The blowdown is the Imperial College software made available to aspen hysys users. Long story short, it has an enhanced thermodynamic and is based on rigorous approach wrt depressuring legacy utility. The legacy utility is based on a simplified approach. Some efficiencies and the pv work term may be changed to get more to less conservative results. On the way to do things, I would suggest you to follow the procedure of your company or of the project you are involved with. Read also API 520 and 521.
