I'm a chemical engineering student who is looking to work in offshore drilling operations (for experience and pay). How will be my future job prospects if I want a shift from drilling operations to refinery operations or process engineering? Or would my field be narrowed down to drilling only.

I think no one can properly advise you. It's for you to decide. Now that you are headed for a ChE degree, you missed the opportunity to be a lawyer. Or an MBA. Good luck.

Sounds like a good question for an experienced offshore drilling platform person, "are ChE skills needed on an offshore drilling platform/rig"?

Idk.

It depends on employer. I think if you will get some experience in upstream you can try to go to downstream. Process engineering is more complex and your future employer's prerequisites perhaps will be unreached based on your future degree.
