Hi,

I am looking for a guidance and reference for sizing a pilot control valve similar to the construction as attached below.

To meet the requirement of given crack open/ set pressure, spring is to be sized.

I have little experience in direct acted spring control relief valves in sizing spring characteristics, but here in pilot control valve, the middle orifice hole is initially open and so how to account for the pressure drop due to continuous pilot flow (before the open of main plunger) in force balancing to arrive at the spring sizing for given set pressure is a concern.

Wet area and inlet pressure of valve are available from the requirement. And oil flows through the valve

Any similar examples or book references for basic design process of a valve is highly appreciated. Since this is a custom build valve, I am searching for a valve design book/ reference to build new valves from basic requirements. Many handbooks are useful for valve selection instead of valve design/ sizing.

Please share your experience.

Thank you
