Hi,

 

Could somebody check whether I made correct calculations. Thank you.
I need to design a shell and tube heat exchanger to heat up the water. For heating, water vapor at 100degC will be used in shell side.

 

TUBES

Flow of water 6500m3/hr
Temp of heated water 90degC

Temp initial of water 10degC

 

SHELL

Flow of water vapor 1500kg/hr

Water vapor at 100degC 

 

 

Energy from water vapor assume 2200kJ/kg * by amount of water vapor 1500 kg/hr = 3 300 000kJ/hr

Energy needed to heat up the water 2 174 276kJ/hr

 

 

70m2 heat exchanger will be ok for such application? What else should I take into account when design such S&T heat exchanger?

Hi ,

You need to go back to the basics , probably take a look at your notes .

How can you get negative Surface ??? 

It seems to me you don't know how to perform an heat balance .

Energy in = Energy out .

During heat transfer , the steam will be converted to water , energy transferred is the latent heat * steam flow rate ,meaning the temperature of the outlet water is the same than the steam inlet .

 

Review the DT ml accordingly..

 

Anyway I will supply some documents to support your work .

I have to assume you are a student.  What year of engineering you are presently studying is something that would be of interest.

 

The reason I state the above is because if I am correct, then this thread belongs in the Student Forum and not here in the Process Heat Transfer Forum that is meant for practicing engineers.  Also, knowing that you are a student and not a practicing engineer helps us experienced engineers understand your errors and most importantly your needs and how we can best help you.  Please reply if you are a student and I will transfer this thread to the Student Forum.

 

Your proposed heat transfer problem is a typical academic example.  It should be easy to resolve it if you just supply all the facts.
