Dear all;

what analysis shall be carried out in order to characterize the heavy crude oil (API=20) using Aspen Hysys or Aveva ProII.

By the way, ASTM D86 is carried out by our company and the results as follows:

Vol%                   Temperature (Degree C)

12                             119

18                             144

22                             169

24                             194

28                             219

The maximum cumulative yield is only 28%. Can I convert these results to TBP using API Technical Datebook's procedure?

Please advice

Thank you in advance

The D86 results you provide for your heavy crude oil are not adequate to meaningfully characterize the complete stream. Simulation will be of little use unless you are interested in only this portion of the distillation curve. You can convert D86 results to an estimate of TBP, but the stream is missing too much information to be very useful. More lab analysis is needed. Perhaps your lab can run a D1160 at least.
