Naphta tranfer line appox  ~ 100 km, 6"  currently pumped at the rate 100 m3/hr needs to increased to 160 m3/hr. How do i check the surge pressure for the increased flow.Naphta density is 670 kg/m3, line pressure 40 kg/cm2g.

I'm not sure what you mean.  Can you be more descriptive, please.  Surge pressure would be if a valve closes too fast, but you give no valve closing time.  Do you mean the increase in pressure drop due to the increased flow?

Increase in the pressure.Considering quick valve closure time duration 5 sec.

You will need a new study with the appropriate software.

How do i check the surge pressure for the increased flow.

Rule of thumb see McAllister's Pipeline Rules of Thumb Handbook para. "How to determine the maximum surge pressure in liquid-filled pipeline when a main valve is closed suddenly" (page 386 in my copy).
Companies practices see:

- Japan Gasoline's standard #210-120-1-74E
- Shell's practice #31.38.01.11 para. 2.3.4

- SIGTTO's Guidelines for the Alleviation of Excessive Surge Pressures on ESD for Liquefied Gas Transfer Systems

Calculator see:

- Cheresources.com/Downloads/ChE Plus Subscription Files/Premium Excel Spreadsheets/Water Hammer Pressure Development

https://www.lmnoeng....aterHammer.php

Simulators see dedicated software e.g. Pipenet, Pipephase.

Theory see Streeter&Wylie's Fluid Transients.

For a brief view see:

- KSB's Lexicon chap. "Hydraulic surge"

- file attached

... and references in those. A simulator from a reputable vendor is preferred.

Note that pressure surge depends on speed of sound which depends not only on liquid properties but what material a pipe is made of and even pipe isometric and supports

Ranga,

This is serious business. So you should find an engineer or company who can reliably perform an analysis with accepted procedures. Have a look at this.
