An elementary liquid phase reaction A to products, is taking place in a given reactor. The reaction is first order and if plug flow existed, conversion would be 71.3%. The flow characteristics of the vessel is given by the non-normalized C curve shown below:

Time (s): 0  120  240  360  480  600  720  840  960

Tracer Conc: 0  6.5  12.5  12.5  10  5  2.5  1  0

a.) Find the number of tanks-in-series which will represent the reactor and the conversion expected assuming that the tanks-in-series model holds.

b.) Find the conversion by direct application of the tracer curve

Answers you are supposed to get:

a.) j = 4.73 tanks, Xa=0.670

b.) Xa= 0.659

Hi,

You need to go back to your textbook, or you may find pointers in Youtube which has tutorials on the subject.

Google "reactors engineering reactors in series"

https://web.vscht.cz...RTD_lecture.pdf

The only way to make progress is to work hard.

Let us know your difficulties, someone will help.

You should find pointers in the document attached:

Set of equations to solve:

1; 2; 17

Good luck

Breizh
