Hello everyone, I would like to ask you if it is possible to calculate the time required to heat a fluid with jacketed steam in a vessel using Aspen Plus or Aspen Hysys?

Yes, you could do that in Aspen+, but I would not.  I'd get the batch operation equations out of Perry's or Kern's Process Heat Transfer book.  They have the solutions to various scenarios and their differential equations.

By hand, it'll take me minutes, and in Aspen+ it'll take me hours.

If you must use Aspen+, look at RBatch under Reactors or BatchProcess under Batch Models.  You have described a dynamic process if you want time to heat up a substance.  It depends strongly on mixing, liquid viscosity, heat transfer area, Cp, etc.  That's a lot of information to enter.

Hi Latexman!

Thanks for your reply.

I will look at Aspen+ just out of curiosity.
I agree with you it is easier to use an equation from these books.

Btw, spiraxsarco has some helpful examples! ????

Hi Latexman,

I checked the Rbatch reactor, but there is not any choice to add all these input you mentioned in your message.

Maybe I have to use the batch process version?

Hi,

I believe that is what you are looking for. Next time don't forget "please".

Perry's chemical handbook and Kern's Process heat transfer should be on your shelf.
