I want to design a heat exchanger/ heater for a gas stream where the inlet conditions range are 40 deg C and 79 bar and a flowrate of around 400kg/hr or a 460Nm^3/hr flow.

The gas compostions are as following (in mol%),

CO2- 2.08000000000000e-002

Nitrogen - 2.22000000000000e-002

Methane - 0.783800000000000

Ethane - 9.46000000000000e-002

Propane - 4.98000000000000e-002

i-Butane - 9.10000000000000e-003

n-Butane - 1.23000000000000e-002

i-Pentane - 2.70000000000000e-003

n-Pentane - 2.10000000000000e-003

n-Hexane - 6.00000000000000e-004

n-Heptane - 7.00000000000000e-004

n-Octane - 8.00000000000000e-004

n-Nonane - 5.00000000000000e-004

 

The desired outlet temperature needs to be 70 Deg C and a normal pressure drop of upto 1.5 bar is allowable. These inlet conditions may seem very unrealistic or a bit odd, but it is currently being used in a industry I currently work in. Are there any type of exchangers that may be used in the process of gas heating for relatively small flowrates which may be efficient?

What kind of technology do you use in your industry?

1) Mass Flow Compositions (in kg/hr):-

The overall phase is gaseous.

 

2) Yes, the pressure in absolute and not gauge.

 

3) Currently block heaters are used in my industry which use emf wound coils for gas heating, but I wonder if any other heat exchangers can be used for the same? 

 

I am totally proficient in using edr especially designing STHE's and PHE's. However I feel that maybe a better type of heat exchanger than a Shell and Tube heat exchanger can be used for heating or even a STHE can be considered for such small flowrates in the first place!
