Hello everyone, I have question regard determining line size of bypass line.

we want to do hot tapping from 30" inch line going to 20" line valve.

I have attached the sketch.

so, the question how we can know what the size is the bypass.

what is the basis to determine the size of the bypass. ?

the service is high pressure sweet gas.

For line sizing, determine the flow rate and hydraulic constraints through calculation. Then choose the most appropriate line size.

ok. but what are basis that will make me choose the size?

is it the pressure difference?

is there limit for the line size?

cause the bypass will come from 30" is there a diffrent if I choose 20" or 24"?

What is the objective of the by-pass?  What flow/capacity?  If the duration of using the by-pass is relatively long, must it furnish "full" flow for "x" weeks/months until something is repaired?  Or, if the duration is relatively short, must it furnish Y % of full flow for "z" hours/days until something is repaired?

Only you and your team can answer these questions.  Only then, can you calculate what line size is needed.
