When I try to compare the results between the equilibrium and rate based model for a packed column for the seperation of the mixture methanol-water, I can see that a there is a slight difference in the mass composition of the components in the top and bottom of the column.
The reason for this difference is related to that difference efficiences are taken into account for the equilibrium model and different for the rate based model?
Thank you in advance!

Allmost certainly yes, in the equilbrium model you specify the stage efficiencies, in the rate based model the effiiciencies are predicted.  You should be able to adjust the equilibrium stage efficiencies to give the same result, never tried that particular excercise though.

Hi Silver, I did not do anything with yhe tray effeciencies. I assume aspen plus assume 100% efficiency if you dont change it yourself. Am I right?
Thank you so much for your to the point and clear answer!!

Thanks for the nice discussion. Could you please suggest me any nice document, which gives a nice overview about the equilibrium and rate based model if you know?
