Hello Everyone,

My plant has a methanol tower, and I would like to know what fire protection is suitable.
According to some literature, only referring to the Methanol Tank, it is recommended to use N2 Blanketing (internal), AR-FFF type Foam, and Water Mist (External).

Are these also suitable for Methanol Distillation Tower? (1 atm)

Thank You

Internal firefighting is not applicable to process equipment as there is no air inside (opposite of storage tanks).

External firefighting means for process /production site are the same as those for storage site.

Hi,

Except for maintenance/turn around, opening the manhole(s) will lead to air ingress.

Note: Make sure you have a proper grounding of equipment and lightning pole close to your storage tanks.

Hi Shvet1,

Thanks for your reply.

I had though that way, But I couldn't find a standard reference for it.

Do you have any suggestions for me to find a standard reference?

Thank You,

Reference for what? I did not catch the point. Sound engineering judgment is the best reference. This may help: NFPA 68, NFPA 69
