I have been given an assignment to check an existing fractionator (designed on condensate having max NBP of 340C) to check with heavy condensate/light crude oil.
Design yields were:
Feed 2600BPD Temp:205C
Condenser Out Temp:65C
Naphtha 1943BPD FBP 150C
Kero 415BPD Kero FBP 215C
HSD 170BPD D86 90% 280C
DFO 110BPD
Bottom Reboiler Temp 280C
Trays: 18
Feed:13
Kero Draw:7 Return:6
HSD Draw:11 Return:10
I prepared simulation on HYSYS, put my current yields in oil manager, The result hypo components are having max NbP of 660C. TBP analysis also show heaving cuts of HSD and DFO.
Results obtained from HYSYS:
Feed: 2000BPD Temp 295C (feed temp increased to flash heavy fractions)
Condenser Top:65C
Naphtha 750BPD FBP: 145C
Kero 300BPD FBP: 205C
HSD: 500BPD D86 90% 315C
DFO: 450 BPD
Bottom Reboiler: 315C
Concern is: Tray 11 and 12 showing very low liq rate.. only 150~300lb/hr whereas tray 14-18 having very low vapor rate.. only 30~60lb/hr.
Column profile is not looking satisfactory however when i put these flows in tary rating software(KG Tower) it shows issue of low weir loading on 11th and 12th tray whereas it is showing satisfactory results for 14-18 trays.
Can someone guide me if this column profile is right or not?
