Hi everyone

I'm trying to check numbers of foam chambers for storage tanks for some given designed and prepared datasheets of storage tanks.

I checked NFPA 11 for this, but in this standard only fixed roof tanks and pan type floating roof tanks have been covered and there wasn't any notation or indication for other types of floating roof storage tanks.

Can anyone introduce any other reference for this, or anyone knows why other types of storage tanks hasn't been covered for this consideration?

I suggest contacting the foam chamber vendors with your question.

Yes, finally vendor designs it, but currently it was a question for me.

Actually, we have a basic designer who has designed and prepared the datasheets, Detail designer who is a different party than basic designer has completed the datasheets too and the datasheets and related MR will be delivered to vendor for redesign and complete engineering of these storage tanks and certainly will check and finalize it.

but I want to know for myself. and want to know why NFPA-11 separated other types of floating roof tanks from pan type, and why hasn't mentioned anything for other types of floating roof tanks about required number of foam chambers?

Hi,

Why do you need foam on a Floating Roof? weird to me. No vapor space.

Review the document attached.

https://www.chemguar... or foam trucks.

I checked again NFPA 11 for internal floating roof storage tanks.

it was my fault, NFPA doesn't explicitly present procedures or numbers or table for number of foam chambers for internal floating roof storage tanks, but there are some notes which says follow rules of fixed roof tanks for internal floating roof storage tanks too.

For internal floating roof tanks two type of fires are considered, seal area fires or full surface area (case of sinking roof ). based on these two scenarios there are rules for determining number of foam discharge outlets and discharge rate and time.
